Share

This Tuna Tataki dish from Episode 1 of “Sachie’s Kitchen” on Prime TV 9.05pm Fridays, is fantastic as an entrée and is a sure-bet to impress guests. I love the simple but elegant look of the dish and the taste of seared tuna!

Servings: 4
Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

400g block of fresh tuna, sashimi grade
1 TBSP Sesame oil
Dressing:
2 TBSP Soy sauce
1 TBSP Sake
1 1/2 TBSP Mirin
Lime zest
Garnish:
Spring onion, cut into fine julienne (white part only)
Sprouts / micro herbs
Japanese Shichimi powder (Japanese seven chilis)
Lime juice if you desire

Method:

  1. Heat a frying pan to very high heat. Coat the tuna block with sesame seed oil and place it onto the pan, sear each side for 10 secs (both front and back and side to side). Set aside to cool.
  2. To prepare garnish, cut white part of spring onion into fine julienne and soak into ice-cold water for a couple of minutes. The spring onion will start to curl. Drain the water and set aside.
  3. Combine soy sauce, cooking sake and mirin in a small bowl and mix well.
  4. Slice the tuna into 5mm thickness and place them on a serving plate. Garnish with spring onion, micro herbs and drizzle the dressing over the tuna and sprinkle the Japanese seven chili powder and lime zest over the top.
